Get Real! dir. Kingsway Eye, Scotland, 2008, 30' A community chat show produced by Kingsway Court resident filmmaking group Kingsway Eye and presented by Noreen Real from her 17th floor Glasgow flat. Featuring chats and cups of tea with Peter Mullan and Nikitta Angus (X-Factor), community information from the Kingsway Health and Wellbeing Centre and Drumchapel Law and Money Advice Centre with music from the Michael Rojkov Jazz Quartet. African Underground: Democracy in Dakar Nomadic Wax/Sol Productions, 2007, 60' A groundbreaking documentary film about hip-hop youth and politics in Dakar, Senegal. The film follows rappers, DJs, journalists, professors and people on the street at the time before during and after the controversial 2007 presidential election in Senegal and examines hip-hop's role on the political process. Originally shot as a seven part documentary mini-series released via the internet - the documentary bridges the gap between hip-hop activism, video journalism and documentary film and explores the role of youth and musical activism on the political process. Operation Filmmaker, dir. Nina Davenport, USA, 2007, 92' In the wake of "Operation Iraqi Freedom," American actor Liev Schreiber had an idealistic notion: to rescue an Iraqi film student from the rubble of his country and bring him to the West to intern on a Hollywood movie ( Everything Is Illuminated ). It promised to be a heartwarming tale, a small victory out of the troubled mission of the U.S war in Iraq. But as in the war itself, "good" intentions yielded unintended consequences, and even this operation doesn't go according to plan...
